President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Commander-in-Chief of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), on Thursday officiated the oath-taking and firearms presentation ceremony for graduates of the 72nd and 73rd batches of the MNDF Basic Training Course at the K. Girifushi parade ground.

The oath of allegiance was administered by High Court Judge Uz Hussain Mazeed. Following the ceremony, President Muizzu presented the newly sworn-in soldiers with their firearms, marking the completion of their basic military training.
The two training programmes were conducted from 7 March to 11 June 2026. The 72nd batch completed its training at the Addu Training Centre under the MNDF Southern Area Command, while the 73rd batch trained at Girifushi.

The MNDF Basic Training Course is designed to provide new recruits with the essential military knowledge and practical skills needed to serve in different branches of the force. The programme focuses on developing disciplined, obedient, physically fit and patriotic soldiers who uphold high moral and professional standards.
Following the ceremony, President Muizzu visited the ongoing Girifushi land reclamation project to inspect the progress of the works.

The project forms part of the President’s broader vision to modernise the MNDF and expand its training infrastructure. It includes land reclamation, coastal protection and harbour upgrading works aimed at strengthening the military’s operational and training capabilities.
