Passengers travelling to and from the Maldives on several Middle Eastern airlines may experience flight delays today as the escalating conflict in the Middle East continues to disrupt regional air travel.
The latest escalation has seen the United States carry out a 12th consecutive night of strikes on Iranian targets, while Iran and its regional allies have expanded retaliatory attacks. Yemen’s Houthi movement has also claimed attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, adding to security concerns across key aviation and shipping routes.
The deteriorating security situation has prompted airlines to reroute flights to avoid conflict zones, while the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has extended warnings advising airlines to avoid or exercise extreme caution in the airspace over Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and parts of the Gulf region. The agency cited the risk of military activity and the possibility of civilian aircraft being misidentified.
A local ticketing agent said the resulting operational adjustments and airspace restrictions may affect flight schedules to the Maldives, stressing that such disruptions are beyond the control of airlines, airports and local authorities.
Passengers are advised to check the latest status of their flights directly with their airline before travelling to the airport and to allow additional time for their journey.
