The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced that the three pump stations being installed as part of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project will be fully installed, tested, and commissioned by August 15, following flooding on the newly developed road during heavy rainfall in Malé.
In a statement issued on Thursday, MTCC clarified that the road had been opened to the public before all essential works were completed. The company said it had already informed the public in its press release issued on 24 July that several key components of the government-commissioned project remained under construction after the road was opened.
According to MTCC, the installation of the three designated pump stations along Boduthakurufaanu Magu is among the remaining works. The company stated that the installation, testing, and commissioning of all three pump stations are now scheduled to be completed by August 15, 2026.
MTCC added that, until the permanent pumping system becomes fully operational, it will continue efforts to remove floodwaters caused by seasonal rainfall and minimize disruption to road users.
The clarification follows widespread circulation of videos on social media showing flooding on sections of the newly developed road after heavy rain. MTCC reiterated that the project still has essential works pending and said it remains committed to completing the remaining infrastructure while maintaining public convenience.
