BML to host Asian Bankers Association annual conference in Maldives

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 4 hours ago

Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced that it will host the 42nd Annual General Meeting and Conference of the Asian Bankers Association (ABA) in the Maldives from September 1 to 3, bringing together leading banking executives and financial experts from across the region.

The conference will be held at Kurumba Maldives and is expected to attract chief executive officers, senior executives from ABA member banks, and international financial specialists.

This will be the second time the Maldives has hosted the prestigious ABA conference, following BML’s successful hosting of the event in 2018. The bank said being selected to host the gathering once again reflects its growing reputation and leadership within the Asian banking industry.

The annual conference serves as a key platform for banking leaders to discuss the most pressing issues facing the financial sector. Participants are expected to exchange views on industry challenges, emerging opportunities, innovation, and the future direction of banking across Asia.

BML was officially announced as the host of the 2026 conference during the 41st ABA Annual Conference held in Bhutan last year.

During the same event, BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef was appointed Vice Chairman of the Asian Bankers Association, marking another milestone for both the bank and the Maldives’ banking sector.

Established in 1981, the Asian Bankers Association is one of the region’s leading banking organizations, promoting cooperation and knowledge sharing among financial institutions across Asia. The annual conference is regarded as one of the association’s flagship events, providing a forum for senior banking leaders to strengthen regional collaboration and discuss the evolving financial landscape.
