The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has announced that Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste delivered to its transfer stations in Malé, Hulhumalé, and Villimalé must be properly segregated from August 1, 2026, warning that non-compliant waste will not be accepted.
WAMCO said its transfer station services in Malé, Hulhumalé, and Villimalé will continue without interruption from August 1. The corporation also confirmed that its CAPS waste collection service will operate as usual.
Under the revised requirements, customers must separate C&D waste into two categories before bringing it to the transfer stations.
The first category includes sand, crushed concrete debris, concrete pillars measuring up to 4 feet by 3 feet, concrete slabs up to 1 metre by 1 metre, rocks, stones, bricks, hollow blocks, ceramic tiles, and bathroom fixtures such as toilet bowls, sinks, and washbasins.
The second category covers other C&D materials including PVC, plastic, wood and timber, glass, metal and iron, electronic waste, cardboard, and other miscellaneous items.
WAMCO stated that any construction and demolition waste that is not segregated according to these requirements will be rejected at its transfer stations.
The corporation advised customers to ensure all waste complies with the established transportation standards and regulations before delivery.
