President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called on Maldivians to remain vigilant against individuals seeking to create instability, warning that peace and progress must not be undermined by political division.
Speaking at the People’s National Congress (PNC) “Haruge” gathering in AA. Ukulhas on Wednesday night, the President said developed nations are distinguished by their ability to unite on matters of national importance. He noted that the Maldives must strive to uphold the same principle despite the actions of groups attempting to disrupt stability.
“If we allow ourselves to be drawn into such currents, the peace and stability we have established could be lost,” President Muizzu said, urging the public not to be influenced by negative political narratives.
The event marked the first PNC “Haruge” gathering held outside Malé. Addressing party members, the President reiterated that ensuring political stability was one of his key electoral pledges, adding that political vengeance had been eliminated under his administration, creating a more harmonious political environment.
Referring to what he described as the increasing spread of baseless rumours, President Muizzu encouraged citizens to carefully assess statements made by political figures. He called on young people to think critically before accepting such narratives and urged older generations to share the country’s history and experiences with the youth.
The President also reaffirmed his commitment to placing the interests of the Maldives above all else. Reflecting on the situation when he assumed office, he said the economy was struggling, development projects had stalled, and social conditions had deteriorated.
“It was a situation where one could say nothing was functioning properly,” he said.
President Muizzu added that, after nearly two years and eight months in office, the country’s progress is now visible across multiple sectors.
Concluding his remarks, he appealed to the public to safeguard national stability and prevent the economy from returning to crisis. He said his administration would continue working to strengthen development, security, and prosperity, expressing confidence that the country would enjoy a brighter future if citizens remained united.
