A 22-year-old man has been remanded for 12 days after allegedly going to another man’s home in Sh. Milandhoo armed with a machete following a social media dispute involving a body-shaming remark about his wife.
The confrontation occurred on Sunday night after the suspect allegedly became angry over a comment describing his wife as “fat.”
Police arrested both the 22-year-old and the 31-year-old man who was allegedly targeted during the confrontation. Both were accused in connection with an attempted assault involving sharp-edged weapons.
However, the Milandhoo Magistrate Court later released the 31-year-old after finding insufficient grounds to keep him in custody. The 22-year-old was ordered to remain in custody for 12 days while police investigate the case.
According to the remand order, the younger man allegedly travelled to the 31-year-old’s residence carrying a machete. Witnesses told investigators that he brandished the weapon during the confrontation and threatened another person who attempted to intervene, warning them to stay away.
The suspect allegedly tried to hide the machete beneath the seat of a motorcycle when police arrived. Officers subsequently discovered the machete and two additional knives concealed under the seat, according to evidence cited by the court.
During his remand hearing, the suspect acknowledged being at the scene and becoming involved in a loud confrontation. The court order also states that he admitted to being under the influence of narcotics at the time.
Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
