President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Tuvalu’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Panapasi Nelesone, have discussed strengthening cooperation on climate finance, sustainable investment and financing mechanisms tailored to the needs of Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Nelesone paid a courtesy call on President Muizzu today on the sidelines of the SIDS Global Business Network Forum 2026 and Island Investment Forum in the Maldives.
The meeting focused on the economic and environmental vulnerabilities confronting SIDS, including difficulties in accessing adequate international financing to address climate-related and development challenges.
President Muizzu welcomed closer engagement between the Maldives and Tuvalu, stressing the importance of solidarity among island nations in advancing their shared interests on the international stage.
The two forums, being held from 23 to 25 August, bring together representatives from governments, businesses and development organisations to explore partnerships and investment opportunities aimed at strengthening sustainable and resilient development across SIDS.
