MWSC senior management holds talks with Dhuvaafaru Council

By Hussain Shinan Published 3 hours ago

Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) Managing Director Hussain Fahmy and members of the company’s senior management have met with R. Dhuvaafaru Council to discuss ongoing utility initiatives and potential improvements to services provided on the island.

According to MWSC, discussions focused on reviewing the progress of current initiatives and identifying areas where essential utility services could be further strengthened to better meet the needs of the Dhuvaafaru community.

The meeting brought together the company’s senior leadership and council members, providing an opportunity for the local authority to discuss service requirements and priorities directly with MWSC management.

While MWSC did not announce any new projects following the meeting, the company said the discussions explored ways to improve the range and quality of essential services available to residents.

Engagement between utility providers and island councils plays an important role in planning infrastructure outside the Greater Malé region, particularly as population growth and development increase demand for reliable water and sewerage systems.

Dhuvaafaru is one of the major population centres in Raa Atoll. The island was developed as a resettlement island following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, with residents from Kandholhudhoo relocated to the newly developed community.

Since then, Dhuvaafaru has grown into an established residential island, increasing the importance of maintaining and expanding essential infrastructure in line with the needs of its population.

MWSC, meanwhile, has expanded its activities beyond the Greater Malé region over the years, undertaking water and sewerage infrastructure projects and providing related utility services across a number of islands.

The company has also been working on infrastructure development and service improvements as part of wider government efforts to strengthen access to essential utilities throughout the Maldives.

MWSC said its latest meeting with Dhuvaafaru Council was focused on assessing the work already underway and exploring further measures that could improve services for the island community.
