MTCC delivers new outdoor gym facility for Buruni community

By Hussain Shinan Published 2 hours ago

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed physical works on a project to install outdoor gym equipment in Th. Buruni, adding a new recreational facility for residents of the island.

MTCC confirmed the completion of the project in its latest progress update, announcing that all physical works associated with the supply and installation of the outdoor fitness equipment have now been completed.

The facility is intended to provide residents with easier access to exercise equipment within the community, creating an additional space for physical activity and recreation.

Outdoor fitness facilities have increasingly been introduced across Maldivian islands as part of efforts to provide communities with accessible spaces for exercise without requiring conventional indoor gym facilities.

Such facilities can be particularly useful on smaller islands, where access to dedicated fitness centres and other recreational infrastructure may be limited.

The completion in Buruni adds to MTCC’s portfolio of community infrastructure projects across the country. While the state-owned company is primarily known for major harbour, coastal protection, reclamation, road and transport projects, it also undertakes smaller infrastructure developments aimed at improving public spaces and community facilities.

MTCC has been implementing projects across numerous islands, with its current portfolio ranging from large-scale harbour and land reclamation developments to coastal protection and other public infrastructure works.

The company recently secured several additional island infrastructure contracts, including harbour, coastal protection and reclamation projects in different atolls, as the government continues to expand infrastructure investment outside the Greater Malé region.

For Buruni, the newly completed outdoor gym adds another recreational amenity available to the island community and provides residents with an opportunity to incorporate exercise into their daily routines in an accessible public setting.

MTCC said the physical component of the project has now been fully completed.
