Police have appealed for public assistance in locating a 25-year-old Maldivian woman who has been reported missing in Malé.
The Maldives Police Service said a search is underway for Mariyam Maae Jameel, from Gulzaaruge, L. Mundoo, after her family reported her disappearance to authorities.
Mariyam, who currently resides in Malé, was officially reported missing during the early hours of September 1.
Police have not disclosed further details surrounding her disappearance, including when she was last seen or the circumstances in which contact with her was lost.
Authorities are now seeking information from members of the public that could help establish her whereabouts.
Anyone who has seen Mariyam or has information that could assist the search has been asked to contact the Henveiru Police Investigation unit on 9400053.
Information can also be provided through the Maldives Police Service hotline on 3322111.
Police routinely issue public appeals in missing-person cases when assistance from the community could help investigators locate an individual. Such appeals are particularly important in Malé, where information from people who may have seen the missing person can help establish their movements and narrow the search.
The search for Mariyam remains ongoing.
