Two Bangladeshi nationals have been detained over allegations of conducting unauthorized foreign currency exchange at inflated rates, following information submitted through the Maldives Police Service’s dedicated hotline for reporting illegal forex transactions.

The Maldives Police Service said the arrests were made during a joint operation with Maldives Immigration.

Police identified the two individuals as MD Masud Ahmed and Abu Tahir. According to the statement, Masud Ahmed was detained on September 11, while Tahir was taken into custody today.

The operation followed information received through the hotline as authorities continue efforts to identify individuals and businesses suspected of involvement in unauthorized foreign currency trading.

Police said both men are accused of conducting foreign exchange business without authorization and offering currency at inflated rates.

The Maldives Police Service is continuing its investigation. Any legal action or further measures against the two individuals will be determined based on evidence gathered during the investigation.
