Fahmy continues team-building drive as MWSC celebrates national recognition

By Hussain Shinan Published 6 hours ago

Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has celebrated its success at the Engineers’ Awards 2026, with Managing Director Hussain Fahmy bringing employees together to recognise the collective effort behind the company’s four national honours.

The celebration reflects Fahmy’s continued emphasis on maintaining a strong and united management and workforce, with achievements across the company being recognised as shared successes rather than solely individual accomplishments.

MWSC secured four honours at this year’s Engineers’ Awards, with two of the company’s projects receiving organisational recognition while General Manager of the Risk and Compliance Division Dr Furqan Ibrahim received two individual awards.

Following the achievement, MWSC management and employees came together to celebrate the recognition, providing an opportunity to acknowledge the engineers, technical teams and other staff whose work contributed to the projects and accomplishments recognised nationally.

Under Fahmy’s leadership, MWSC has placed emphasis on building a collaborative working environment within the company, including bringing management and employees together through professional development, leadership programmes and activities recognising staff achievements.

The latest celebration continues that approach, with MWSC describing the awards as a reflection of the dedication, creativity and hard work of its wider team.

Four awards recognise MWSC’s work

MWSC received the Sustainability Champion Award for its 100 percent solar-powered, zero-emission water production system established in HDh. Kulhudhuffushi.

The project represents the company’s efforts to incorporate renewable energy into water production and reduce the environmental footprint associated with desalination.

The Community Impact Award, meanwhile, recognised MWSC’s integrated utility service model in R. Dhuvaafaru.

The Dhuvaafaru model combines drinking water production and distribution, sewerage, waste management, electricity services, rainwater harvesting and renewable energy solutions within an integrated utility framework.

Dr Furqan secured the company’s other two honours, receiving both the Engineer of the Year Award and the Engineering Innovation, Technology, Education and Research Award.

MWSC management congratulated Dr Furqan on the achievement while also highlighting the contribution of employees across the company who support its engineering and utility operations.

Fahmy continues focus on building a stronger team

Strengthening MWSC’s workforce and management has been a recurring focus under Fahmy’s leadership.

The company recently conducted an intensive leadership development programme for more than 39 senior employees at the MNDF Girifushi Training Centre. The programme focused on leadership, strategic thinking, decision-making, crisis management and teamwork, alongside practical emergency preparedness activities.

MWSC has also used Engineers’ Day activities to recognise its technical workforce and encourage employees to take pride in their contribution to essential public services.

At the same time, the company has sought to develop the next generation of engineers by opening facilities in R. Dhuvaafaru, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi, S. Hithadhoo and S. Hulhumeedhoo to students, allowing them to see firsthand how engineering supports water, sewerage and other utility services.

The approach reflects a broader effort by the management to develop technical capability while strengthening cooperation between different levels of the organisation.

For MWSC, the four awards therefore represent more than recognition of individual projects. The company has framed the achievement as a collective milestone for its workforce and an opportunity to celebrate the people responsible for delivering and developing its services.

Fahmy and the management have continued to emphasise employee development, innovation and teamwork as MWSC expands its role in developing sustainable water and sewerage infrastructure across the country.

The company said it intends to build on the recognition and continue pursuing further achievements through innovation, sustainable engineering and the combined efforts of its employees.
