State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has held discussions with Bangladesh on potential cooperation in the energy sector, as the state utility explores opportunities to strengthen partnerships and exchange expertise.
STELCO Managing Director Dr Ali Azwar met with Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives Dr Md Nazmul Islam, with discussions focused on areas where the two sides could work together in the energy sector.
According to STELCO, the meeting also explored other areas of mutual interest, although the company did not announce any specific agreements or projects arising from the talks.
The discussions come as STELCO continues efforts to strengthen its operations while placing greater emphasis on sustainability and the longer-term transformation of electricity services in the Maldives.
Azwar took over as Managing Director of STELCO in April this year after previously serving as Deputy Managing Director. He has spent nearly three decades at the company, having joined STELCO in 1997, and has held senior positions including Chief Operating Officer and heads of the Customer Services and Business Development departments.
His academic background also has a strong focus on the energy sector. Azwar holds a doctorate in Public Policy from Victoria University of Wellington, where his research focused on renewable energy policy, as well as a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the National University of Singapore.
The meeting with the Bangladeshi High Commissioner adds to STELCO’s engagement with international partners as the company looks at opportunities for cooperation and knowledge sharing within the energy industry.
