Maafannu Madharusa learn road safety through MTCC community initiative

By Hussain Shinan Published September 29, 2026

Students from Maafannu Madharusa have taken part in an educational session organised by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to promote safer use of public transport and greater awareness of road safety.
The programme was conducted as part of MTCC’s corporate social responsibility initiatives and focused on familiarising students with the company’s bus transportation services and the practices they should follow when travelling on public transport.
Rather than limiting the programme to classroom instruction, MTCC incorporated interactive activities and practical guidance to help students understand how to travel safely and responsibly.
Students were introduced to appropriate behaviour when using buses, public transport etiquette and the importance of following road safety practices as pedestrians and passengers.
The session also provided an opportunity for students to develop a better understanding of how public bus services operate and the individual responsibilities passengers have in maintaining a safe environment.
MTCC said initiatives of this nature are intended to provide meaningful learning experiences for young people while contributing to safer communities.
Road safety awareness has become increasingly important in the Greater Malé region as the number of vehicles and the use of public transport have grown alongside the expansion of the capital and Hulhumalé.
MTCC operates the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) public transport network, which provides bus services across the Greater Malé region as well as ferry and other transport connections in different parts of the country.
Bus services in Malé, Hulhumalé and surrounding areas have expanded considerably in recent years, increasing the importance of educating younger passengers about safe boarding, responsible behaviour inside buses and precautions when crossing or walking near busy roads.
The government has also been working to encourage greater use of public transportation as part of efforts to reduce congestion and improve mobility in densely populated urban areas.
MTCC said it remains committed to using its community programmes to support education and promote responsible behaviour among young people.
