President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have returned to the Maldives after concluding an unofficial visit to Singapore.
The President’s Office said the First Couple arrived back in the country on Monday night following the private trip.
Muizzu and Sajidha departed for Singapore on the night of September 26. The visit was not an official engagement, and no official meetings or government-related activities were announced in connection with the trip.
The President’s Office has previously clarified that on certain unofficial overseas visits, Muizzu personally covers expenses associated with the trip rather than having them borne by the state.
This includes expenses related to administrative arrangements required during the President’s travel, as well as costs arising from family and personal matters.
The distinction has been highlighted on previous occasions when the President has travelled abroad in a private capacity, with the administration maintaining that expenses associated with such visits are personally borne by Muizzu.
