State Trading Organization (STO) has officially introduced Indian dairy brand Amul to the Maldivian market, expanding the range of dairy products available through its retail network.
The brand was formally launched during the Hotel Asia Exhibition being held in Hulhumalé, with members of STO’s Executive Committee attending the launch ceremony.
Following the introduction, a selection of Amul products has been made available at STO People’s Choice. The initial range includes milk, cheese, butter and ice cream, along with several other dairy products.
Aishath Nazahat, Sales Manager at STO People’s Choice, said the company expects Amul products to appeal to Maldivian consumers due to similarities in food preferences between the two markets.
In addition to commonly used dairy products, STO plans to offer items including yoghurt and popular Indian sweets such as gulab jamun under the Amul range.
Amul is one of India’s largest and most recognisable dairy brands and operates under the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation. The brand traces its origins to a dairy cooperative established in Anand, Gujarat, in 1946 and has since developed an extensive portfolio covering milk, butter, cheese, yoghurt, ice cream and other dairy-based products.
Its “Taste of India” branding has become widely recognised across India, while Amul products are also exported to numerous international markets.
The entry of Amul adds another major international food brand to STO’s People’s Choice portfolio. The state-owned company imports and distributes a wide range of essential food and household products in the Maldives, with People’s Choice serving as one of its principal retail operations.
STO is showcasing the newly introduced Amul range at its stall during Hotel Asia, where visitors are being offered opportunities to sample selected products.
The company has also introduced several promotional activities alongside the launch. Visitors who register at the STO stall can participate in daily lucky draws, while a separate social media promotion gives participants an opportunity to win a dishwasher.
Coffee State beverages are also being served at the STO exhibition stall.
The launch coincides with this year’s Hotel Asia Exhibition, which is being held at the Synthetic Track in Hulhumalé from September 28 to 30.
Hotel Asia is one of the Maldives’ major hospitality industry exhibitions, bringing together suppliers, distributors, hotels, resorts and businesses serving the country’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
The exhibition provides companies with a platform to introduce new products to both businesses and consumers, particularly products targeting the country’s large hospitality and food service market.
With Amul now entering the local market through STO, Maldivian consumers and hospitality businesses will have access to a broader range of Indian dairy products through the company’s distribution network.
