Ooredoo Maldives has joined hands with the Women’s Development Committee of K. Dhiffushi to carry out a community tree planting programme, as part of its continuing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and expand green spaces across the Maldives.
The activity, conducted under the company’s Grow with Ooredoo initiative, brought together local residents and community representatives to plant trees in selected areas of Dhiffushi, with the aim of improving the island’s natural surroundings and encouraging greater public involvement in environmental protection.
The plants used during the programme were provided by Housing Development Corporation (HDC), which supported the initiative through its contribution of planting materials.
The collaboration brought together the telecommunications company, the island’s Women’s Development Committee, HDC and members of the local community in a collective effort to improve the island’s environment.
Ooredoo Maldives said the initiative forms part of its wider corporate social responsibility activities, which focus on supporting communities and encouraging environmentally responsible practices.
Through the Grow with Ooredoo programme, the company has been working with island councils, community organisations and other partners to promote tree planting and environmental awareness across the country.

The latest activity in Dhiffushi places particular emphasis on community participation, with local residents taking an active role in efforts to improve and maintain green spaces on their island.
Women’s Development Committees play an important role in community development across the Maldives, working alongside local councils to support initiatives related to social welfare, women’s participation and improvements to island communities.
Their involvement in environmental programmes also helps encourage wider community ownership of projects intended to benefit residents over the long term.
For low-lying island communities such as Dhiffushi, maintaining healthy green spaces can contribute to more pleasant public surroundings, provide shade and support the local environment.
Environmental conservation remains an important issue for the Maldives, where limited land availability, coastal pressures and the effects of climate change have increased attention on sustainable development and the protection of natural resources.

Community-based initiatives, including tree planting and the preservation of existing vegetation, can complement broader efforts to improve the environmental resilience and liveability of inhabited islands.
The Dhiffushi programme also demonstrates how cooperation between private companies and local community organisations can support practical environmental improvements.
By involving residents directly in planting activities, the initiative seeks to encourage a shared responsibility for maintaining greener surroundings and protecting the island’s environment.
Ooredoo Maldives said it remains committed to expanding community partnerships through Grow with Ooredoo and supporting projects that contribute to a cleaner, greener and more sustainable Maldives.
The company highlighted the importance of collective participation in achieving long-term environmental goals, with the Dhiffushi activity representing another step in its continuing environmental and community development efforts.
