India has issued a safety advisory urging its citizens in Saudi Arabia to remain alert and vigilant amid heightened regional security concerns, as Air India reportedly cancelled flights to and from Riyadh until October 10.
The advisory, issued by the Indian Embassy in Riyadh on Thursday, October 8, 2026, comes amid reports that Yemen’s Houthi movement claimed to have launched a ballistic missile attack targeting airports in Saudi Arabia.
The Embassy advised all Indian nationals in the Kingdom to remain indoors when necessary and follow instructions issued by Saudi authorities through official channels.
Indian citizens were also strongly advised against circulating or reposting videos and news relating to the ongoing events.
The Embassy confirmed that its operations in Riyadh, the Indian Consulate in Jeddah and outsourced visa services through VFS are continuing normally.
A 24-hour emergency helpline remains available through the Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra at 8002471234.
The Embassy urged Indian nationals to follow its verified social media accounts for further updates and safety instructions.
According to Reuters, the Houthis claimed responsibility for a fresh ballistic missile attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on Thursday. Saudi authorities did not immediately confirm that the latest missile had struck the airport. The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted missiles targeting Riyadh and Khamis Mushait.
The latest escalation follows attacks on King Khalid International Airport and Abha International Airport earlier this week. Saudi aviation authorities reported that the attacks killed three people and injured 36 others.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attacks on civilian infrastructure and expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Air India and Air India Express confirmed the suspension of flights to and from Riyadh until October 10, with affected passengers offered refunds or rescheduling options.
An Air India flight travelling from New Delhi to Riyadh was also forced to turn back on Thursday because of the security situation.
Passengers planning to travel to Saudi Arabia have been advised to check directly with their airlines for the latest flight schedules as the regional security situation continues to develop.
