Bank of Maldives (BML) has opened applications for 25 paid technology internships, offering young Maldivians the opportunity to gain professional experience while receiving a monthly allowance of MVR 11,000.
The positions are being offered under the bank’s one-year Internship Programme, which provides participants with practical workplace training, mentorship and exposure to different areas of banking operations.
Although the latest intake focuses on technology, selected interns will have opportunities to gain experience across both technology and non-technology functions within the bank.
BML said the programme is designed to help participants develop professional skills by working on live projects and learning directly from experienced employees.
In addition to the monthly allowance, interns will be entitled to a Ramadan bonus, 15 days of paid annual leave and 10 days of leave for medical or family emergencies.
Applications are open to Maldivian citizens above the age of 18 who are currently pursuing or have completed a technology-related qualification.
Individuals who possess relevant technical skills may also apply, providing an opportunity for candidates who have developed their abilities through practical experience or other forms of learning.
The internship is intended to help young people bridge the gap between academic knowledge and the demands of a professional working environment.
Through participation in ongoing projects, interns will be able to gain experience in how technology supports the operations of a major financial institution.
Technology has become an increasingly important part of banking, with financial institutions relying on digital systems to provide services, process transactions, maintain security and improve customer experience.
As banking services continue to shift towards digital platforms, demand for employees with technical knowledge and practical problem-solving skills has become an important consideration for the financial sector.
BML’s internship programme provides an opportunity for aspiring technology professionals to develop these skills within an established banking environment.
The bank first introduced its Internship Programme in 2018 as part of efforts to create career development opportunities for young Maldivians.
Since its launch, 98 interns have participated across seven batches.
According to BML, approximately 60 percent of participants have gone on to secure permanent positions at the bank, demonstrating the programme’s potential to serve as a pathway into long-term employment.
The bank said interns who demonstrate strong performance during the programme may also be considered for permanent positions.
While employment is not guaranteed upon completion, the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals and participate in real projects is intended to provide participants with valuable preparation for future careers.
The latest intake also reflects the growing importance of developing local talent in technology-related fields as financial institutions expand their digital capabilities.
For young Maldivians seeking to enter the technology industry, the programme offers a combination of structured training, professional experience and financial support over a 12-month period.
BML has encouraged eligible applicants with an interest in technology and banking to apply for the available positions.
