Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is preparing to begin asphalt paving on the third segment of Ameenee Magu in Malé on Tuesday, October 20, following the completion of preparatory roadworks.
The company confirmed that the application of MC-30 prime coat, an important stage in preparing the road surface for asphalt paving, has been completed across the segment.
With the preparatory work now finished, MTCC is scheduled to move ahead with asphalt laying on Tuesday as part of the ongoing road development works.
Once the asphalt surface has been laid, the company will proceed with road marking activities, including the markings required to guide traffic and improve road safety.
The completion of the prime coat application marks another step towards bringing the third segment of the road closer to completion.
MC-30 prime coat is a bituminous material applied to a prepared road base before asphalt paving. It helps bind loose surface particles, stabilise the underlying layer and improve the bond between the road base and the asphalt surface.
The application is an important part of road construction, helping ensure that the finished surface remains durable under regular traffic conditions.
Ameenee Magu is one of the major roads in Malé, serving residential neighbourhoods, businesses and motorists travelling through the densely populated capital.
Road development works along the route are intended to improve the condition of the road surface and provide safer, more reliable access for pedestrians and motorists.
As one of the country’s principal infrastructure development companies, MTCC is involved in road construction and other infrastructure projects across the Maldives.
The company has been undertaking the Ameenee Magu works in stages, allowing construction activities to progress across different sections of the road.
The upcoming asphalt paving will represent a key construction milestone for Segment 3, although MTCC has not announced a specific date for the completion of the segment or the reopening of the affected road section to traffic.
The company has also not provided a timetable for the road marking works beyond confirming that they will begin after asphalt paving is completed.
With paving scheduled to commence on October 20, the third segment is moving into one of the final stages of road surface construction.
