President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed departed the Maldives on Tuesday morning for a three-day State Visit to Pakistan, marking the first high-level engagement between the two countries in a decade.
The visit, scheduled from 20 to 22 October 2026, is being undertaken at the invitation of Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
During the visit, President Muizzu is expected to hold high-level discussions with Pakistani leaders aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) are also expected to be exchanged, paving the way for closer collaboration between the two countries.
The State Visit carries particular diplomatic significance as the Maldives and Pakistan celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations, which were formally established on 26 July 1966.
President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha are accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials.
The visit provides an opportunity for both countries to reaffirm their longstanding diplomatic ties and explore new avenues for cooperation.
