President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed have arrived in Islamabad, Pakistan, for a three-day State Visit, marking the first high-level bilateral engagement between the Maldives and Pakistan in more than a decade.
Upon their arrival at Islamabad International Airport on Tuesday, President Muizzu and the First Lady were accorded a ceremonial welcome, including a 21-gun salute in honour of the Maldivian President.
President Muizzu is scheduled to receive an official welcome at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad on Wednesday, where he is expected to hold high-level discussions with Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
The State Visit, taking place from 20 to 22 October 2026, is being undertaken at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The visit holds special diplomatic significance as the Maldives and Pakistan commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations, formally established on 26 July 1966.
The high-level engagement is expected to further strengthen longstanding bilateral ties and expand cooperation between the two countries.
