The Thilamale Bridge project has achieved another major construction milestone, with Villimale and Gulhifalhu now physically connected following the completion of the final bridge segment between the two islands.
Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib announced the development on social media, confirming that the approximately 750-metre bridge section linking Villimale and Gulhifalhu has been completed.

The Minister congratulated the ministry’s project team and Indian contractor Afcons Infrastructure on the achievement. He also thanked the Government of India for its continued financial support and commitment to the project.
According to the latest project updates, more than 80 percent of the Thilamale Bridge project has been completed, with construction progressing towards the government’s target of finishing the entire development by the end of 2027.
The latest milestone follows the completion of the 2.2-kilometre bridge structure connecting Malé and Villimale in August this year.
Construction teams are currently focusing on installing bridge deck segments. A significant number of the 1,222 segments required for the project have already been manufactured at the casting facility established in Gulhifalhu.
The project also includes a 600-metre bridge connecting Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi, alongside approximately 2.5 kilometres of connecting highway infrastructure.
Spanning a total of 6.7 kilometres, the Greater Malé Connectivity Project comprises three over-water bridges and connecting highways linking Malé, Villimale, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi.
The USD 500 million project is financed through an Indian Line of Credit and funding from the Government of Maldives.
Once completed, the bridge network will establish a permanent road connection between the four islands, improving transportation, facilitating commercial activities and supporting infrastructure development across the Greater Malé region.
