The third section of Ameenee Magu undergoing repairs in Malé is expected to reopen to traffic before the end of this week, following the completion of resurfacing and road marking works.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), which is carrying out the project, confirmed that all construction work on the section between Izzuddeen Magu and Koorukendi Hingun has been completed, with preparations underway to reopen the road to motorists.
Work on the section began on 4 October as part of a phased programme to repair damaged portions of Ameenee Magu, one of the main roads running through the capital.
According to MTCC, the latest phase involved removing the existing asphalt across an area of 1,924.77 square metres before rebuilding the road surface.
The work included laying a new aggregate base course (ABC), resurfacing the road with asphalt and completing road markings to improve traffic movement.
Concrete works at the junctions along the section have also been completed, bringing the third phase of the project to a close.
The reopening is expected to ease traffic movement in the surrounding area, where roadworks have affected access during the construction period.
The Ameenee Magu repair programme is being implemented in separate phases to address damaged sections of the road while allowing completed areas to return to public use.
The first two phases have already been completed and reopened to traffic.
The initial phase covered the section between the Voice of Maldives building and Dharumavantha Hospital, while the second focused on the four-way junction in front of the Voice of Maldives.
Both sections underwent repairs before being reopened to motorists.
With the third phase now completed, MTCC is preparing to begin work on the next section of the road.
The fourth phase will cover the stretch between Koorukendi Hingun and Ghiyasuddin International School.
MTCC said preparations for the upcoming phase are already underway as the company continues its efforts to improve the condition of Ameenee Magu.
The road is an important transport route in Malé, connecting residential neighbourhoods, commercial areas and public facilities.
Its condition has a direct impact on daily traffic movement in the densely populated capital, where road space is limited and disruptions can affect surrounding streets.
The ongoing repairs are intended to address deterioration in the road surface and improve conditions for motorists and other road users.
MTCC said the improvements would contribute to safer and more convenient transportation for residents once the remaining sections are completed.
The project forms part of continuing efforts to maintain and improve road infrastructure in Malé, where heavy traffic and frequent use place considerable pressure on existing roads.
