Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has reported further progress on the second phase of the Fiyoaree Harbour Upgrade Project in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, with quay wall construction activities currently underway.
The company confirmed that the first shipment of prefabricated quay wall blocks has arrived at the project site, while installation work is already in progress.
The development is being undertaken under a design-and-build contract, with MTCC responsible for carrying out the harbour improvement works.
Quay walls are an essential component of harbour infrastructure, providing a reinforced waterfront structure where vessels can berth safely for loading, unloading and passenger movement.
The installation of quay wall blocks is an important stage of marine construction, forming part of the permanent structures that support harbour operations.
The ongoing works form part of the second phase of improvements to Fiyoaree’s harbour facilities, which serve as a vital transport link for residents and businesses on the island.
Like many inhabited islands across the Maldives, Fiyoaree depends heavily on maritime transport for the movement of passengers, food supplies, construction materials and other essential goods.

Reliable harbour infrastructure is particularly important for communities in the southern atolls, where sea transport remains a primary means of maintaining connections between islands and accessing essential services.
MTCC has undertaken numerous harbour development and rehabilitation projects throughout the Maldives, alongside dredging, land reclamation, coastal protection and other infrastructure works.
The company plays a significant role in implementing public infrastructure projects aimed at improving transport connectivity and supporting economic activity in island communities.
