More than 5,600 local and international runners are expected to participate in the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) 2026, scheduled to take place on Friday, 20 November, at Hulhumalé Central Park.
With two weeks remaining until the event, organisers are preparing to welcome participants across several race categories, including the Half Marathon, 10K and 5K Open events, alongside newly introduced team competitions.
This year’s race marks a major milestone for the annual sporting event, having received official recognition as a World Athletics Ranking Competition.
The event will be conducted on a World Athletics-certified course measured in cooperation with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), providing a recognised competitive setting for participating athletes.
The international recognition represents a significant development for the race, placing it within the World Athletics competition framework and strengthening its standing among organised road running events.
DMRR 2026 is expected to attract a diverse field of participants, ranging from experienced distance runners to individuals competing in their first organised race.
The introduction of team categories is also intended to encourage greater participation and provide additional opportunities for runners to compete collectively.
Beyond its competitive elements, the event continues to promote physical fitness and active lifestyles, encouraging people of different ages and abilities to take up running and work towards personal fitness goals.
With race day approaching, participants have been encouraged to maintain consistent training schedules and prioritise their physical wellbeing to ensure they are adequately prepared for their chosen distances.
Dhiraagu has partnered with The Wellness Club, Island Runners Maldives and Marathon Runners Maldives to provide coaching support and guidance for participants.
Through these partnerships, runners can receive advice on building endurance, improving running techniques and preparing for the physical demands of their respective race categories.
The coaching initiatives are particularly aimed at helping participants develop confidence and approach race day with appropriate preparation, whether they are competing in the Half Marathon or taking part in the shorter distances.
The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race has become a prominent fixture in the country’s sporting calendar, bringing together running enthusiasts and encouraging wider community participation in organised fitness activities.
With more than 5,600 participants expected this year, the event is set to bring a substantial gathering of athletes and supporters to Hulhumalé Central Park.
Dhiraagu said it will continue sharing updates and race-related information through its official social media platforms in the lead-up to the event.
