Residents of Hulhumalé are in for a brief burst of colour tonight, with a fireworks display set to take place in Phase 3 of the city.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) announced that the fireworks will be set off at some point between 10:00 pm and 11:30 pm. The display is expected to last around three minutes.
According to the MNDF, the display is being carried out on a commercial basis for a private event. It is being organised by the Sifainge Cooperative Society (SIFCO), the MNDF’s cooperative.
“Arrangements have been made to conduct a three-minute fireworks display on a commercial basis in Hulhumalé Phase 3 at a time between 22:00 and 23:30 tonight,” the MNDF said.
SIFCO regularly provides fireworks displays on a commercial basis, timed to special celebrations and events. Its services are a familiar sight at both public occasions and private functions across the capital area.
The MNDF has not disclosed details of the private event the display is being held for.
