Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has moved forward with the installation of cable junctions as part of the second phase of the Fuvahmulah City internal roads project.
According to MTCC, works currently under way include the construction of settlement tanks, the laying of pipes and the installation of cable junction boxes across the city.
Under the project, small roads in Fuvahmulah that have not yet been paved will be asphalted.
A total of 50 roads, covering around 12.7 kilometres, are set to be asphalted as part of the works.
The second phase of the Fuvahmulah road development project was awarded to MTCC in July last year. The project is scheduled to be completed within two years, at a cost of MVR 255.2 million.

MTCC has previously stated that the project includes the establishment of a drainage system and the installation of 650 cable junction boxes.
The works also include paving an area of 13,964 square metres, installing 24,345 metres of kerb stones and setting up tree pits along the roads.
In addition, 633 street lights will be installed, along with road signs, zebra crossings and speed breakers to improve road safety.
MTCC also carried out the first phase of the Fuvahmulah road project, under which 31 major roads in the city were asphalted, including the Fuvahmulah ring road.
Practical work on the first phase began in 2020, with more than 95,000 square metres of road surface asphalted across the city.
With the second phase now progressing, MTCC continues its work to transform Fuvahmulah City’s road network, bringing modern and safer roads to residents across the island.
