The Housing Ministry has clarified that today’s significant fire, which damaged the buildings of three key ministries, has not compromised the flat list data, as this information is securely stored. The blaze destroyed the facilities housing the Housing Ministry, Construction Ministry, and Environment Ministry, resulting in the loss of several crucial documents. Among these were records from the Vital Registration Office of the Malé City Council, responsible for newborn registrations and population data. Consequently, there have been public inquiries concerning the status of the flat list.
In response, the Housing Ministry issued a statement confirming that the flat lists for both the Gedhoruveriya (Homeowner) Scheme and documents pertaining to the Binveriya (Landowner) Scheme remain unaffected. The Ministry emphasized that these housing scheme documents are securely stored in digital format via cloud hosting, ensuring their safety from any impact of the fire.
Further assurance was provided in a subsequent statement from the Ministry, reaffirming that all Gedhoruveriya Scheme-related information is digitally maintained within their cloud hosting infrastructure. Thus, this data remains entirely secure and unaffected by the incident.
The Ministry also conveyed their ongoing consultations with relevant parties to enhance safety and security measures following this event. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has successfully brought the fire under control.
