The Maldives is experiencing a rise in jet arrivals for the New Year holiday season, sparking optimism for the tourism sector. Air France is set to launch its flights next week, adding to the influx of tourists as daily visitor numbers climb significantly.
According to a report by “Mirror,” Air France will commence direct flights from Europe to the Maldives on the 25th of this month. These charter services are expected to substantially boost tourist numbers from the European market.
Data from the Ministry of Tourism reveals a notable increase in daily arrivals as of the 15th of this month, marking one of the busiest days at the airport with 8,934 tourists entering the Maldives on that day alone.
Abdulla Ghiyas, Chairman of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), expressed optimism in an interview with “Mirror,” suggesting that daily arrivals could soon reach 11,000.
“The addition of Air France flights and increased jet activity heralds a revival. We anticipate substantial progress and expect tourist arrivals to surpass our yearly projections,” stated Abdulla Ghiyas.
The Ministry of Tourism’s statistics indicate that 1,929,046 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, reflecting a nine percent increase compared to last year’s figure of 1,769,872 during the same period.
