A man has been detained in connection with the theft of a necklace from a woman who was riding a motorcycle on Alikileygefaanu Magu in Male’. The arrest took place yesterday afternoon, and the suspect is identified as 30-year-old V. Fiyabari Hassan Isaam (30), Vilimale’, according to police.
A video that has gained traction on social media captures the moment a man on a motorcycle snatches a necklace from a woman also on a motorcycle. The footage shows the woman visibly shocked and disoriented, abandoning her motorcycle to flee from the assailant. The perpetrator was observed wearing a helmet that obscured his face and operating his motorcycle at high speed.
After successfully seizing the necklace, the individual decelerated his vehicle only to make another aggressive move towards the woman, seemingly intending to grab her handbag during this second attempt. In pursuit of his target, he mounted the pavement but ultimately fled when bystanders began to converge at the scene.
Police have confirmed Isaam’s arrest as the primary suspect in the necklace theft. Additionally, the motorcycle used in the incident has been confiscated by police as part of their ongoing investigation.
