Police have conducted a search at the residence of Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, former Managing Director of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), located in M. Zeyvar. The operation took place late last night and is linked to allegations of unlawfully distributing plots in Hulhumale to individuals not eligible under the Binveriya Scheme.
Local media outlet “Adhadhu” reported that the police were present at Fazul’s residence for several hours during the night. It remains unclear if any documents or items were seized as potential evidence. The police have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
Fazul recently resigned amid accusations of fraudulent plot allocations, allegedly involving document forgery. The issue surfaced when it was discovered that his brother, Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed, had been wrongly awarded a plot and had started building a boundary wall.
Beyond the plot controversy, Fazul faces multiple corruption allegations within HDC. Consequently, numerous senior officials and employees have been dismissed. Additionally, all HDC board members, except the Chairman, have been suspended with travel restrictions imposed on them, including passport confiscations for Fazul, his brother Fazeel, and certain Ministry of Housing officials.
Investigations by both the police and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) into the illegal plot allocations and forgery are ongoing.
