Brawl Erupts Among Sri Lankan Expats at Velana International Airport

By Ahmed Ashraf Published December 25, 2024

Authorities are currently investigating a reported altercation involving expatriates at Velana International Airport. The incident, which took place at approximately 3:15 PM, was confirmed by police, though they have yet to release any additional details regarding the circumstances or individuals involved.

Video shared by local news outlet MvCrisis appears to show the confrontation occurring between a group of Sri Lankan men who, according to the same source, were allegedly under the influence of alcohol. As of now, there have been no reports of injuries resulting from the incident. The video has sparked concern over the conduct of expatriates in public spaces.

This recent event follows a similar brawl earlier this month on the 6th at Malé City’s Artificial Beach, which resulted in deportations for those involved. The recurrence of such incidents has raised questions about public safety and the behavior of expatriate communities.
