Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has expressed confidence that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will transform the Maldives into a safe, secure, and developed nation during his tenure. Speaking on a PSM program, Abdul Raheem highlighted the achievements of the current administration in 2024, despite facing substantial challenges, such as the economic difficulties inherited from the former government.
As Chairperson of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), Abdul Raheem criticized the previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) government for allocating an inadequate budget for 2024, which hindered President Muizzu’s ability to fulfill his promises. Nevertheless, one of the administration’s significant accomplishments has been averting national bankruptcy while maintaining essential services for citizens.
The Speaker commended President Muizzu’s achievements in stabilizing peace, social justice, and financial conditions within a year of assuming office. Noteworthy milestones include establishing the Maldives’ first development bank to boost economic growth and signing a historic Free Trade Agreement with China. Additionally, the administration successfully attracted a record 2 million tourists in one year.
Looking to the future, Abdul Raheem outlined President Muizzu’s vision of restoring peace, security, and unity in the Maldives while addressing pressing social issues. The Speaker emphasized that progress and development are contingent upon peace and stability, highlighting efforts to distance youth from drugs and curb gang crimes through legislative amendments. Furthermore, steps have been initiated to reduce tobacco use across society.
Abdul Raheem affirmed that with these strategic measures, President Muizzu is poised to lead the Maldives towards becoming a safe, secure, and developed nation within five years.
