Maldives Immigration has detained two expatriates for breaching visa regulations by engaging in business activities while on tourist visas.
In an announcement made via its official account on platform X, the immigration authority revealed that the two individuals—a 24-year-old Jordanian man and a 19-year-old Syrian woman—were also found unlawfully residing in public spaces.
The duo was apprehended following a public tip-off submitted through the Immigration Watch platform. The authority stated that measures are underway to deport both individuals.
Maldives Immigration commended the public for reporting violations and encouraged citizens to continue using the whistleblower platform to report such incidents.
The current administration has been actively working to address illegal migration issues in the country. As part of these efforts, joint operations with other government agencies have been conducted to identify expatriates residing without valid documentation or engaging in unauthorized activities.
According to Maldives Immigration, over 5,000 undocumented migrants have been deported since the administration took office, reflecting the government’s commitment to resolving challenges related to illegal migration and ensuring compliance with immigration regulations.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to visa conditions and the government’s firm stance against misuse of tourist visas for unauthorized business activities.
