Mystical Unraveling: Police Probe Sorcery Allegations in Alifushi and Meedhoo

By Ahmed Ashraf Published January 12, 2025

Today, law enforcement authorities have initiated searches of residences on the islands of R. Alifushi and Meedhoo, following suspicions of sorcery activities. According to a statement released to the media today, reports have surfaced suggesting the practice of sorcery in these locations. While an operation is currently in progress, the police have refrained from providing additional details at this time.

Residents from both islands have taken to social media to voice their concerns regarding these alleged supernatural practices. It is noteworthy that arrests have previously been made in connection with sorcery-related incidents. Last year, a similar search operation was conducted on Sh. Kanditheemu, where law enforcement discovered materials believed to be used for such purposes.

The practice of sorcery in the Maldives has historical roots and remains a controversial issue. Despite modern advancements, traditional beliefs still hold sway among some communities, leading to periodic investigations and legal actions by authorities.
