The first taxi driver training and refresher program of the year has been launched in Malé City, aiming to enhance drivers’ knowledge of land transport regulations and their role in ensuring road safety.
Organized by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) as part of its Road Safety Awareness and Prevention initiative, the program will run from January 12 to January 15 and includes the participation of 309 taxi drivers.
The training covers key aspects of the Land Transport Act and educates drivers on how to handle situations involving road incidents or accidents. MPS emphasized that the program is designed to reinforce responsible driving behavior and guide drivers on appropriate actions in emergency scenarios.
The taxi driver training is held in four rounds throughout the year and is a mandatory requirement for drivers seeking a taxi license. By completing the program, drivers are expected to contribute to safer road practices and improve public confidence in taxi services.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of such training sessions, highlighting that they play a crucial role in promoting road safety and ensuring compliance with transport regulations across the capital.
