Maldives Immigration has detained three Indian nationals for allegedly promoting fortune-telling and palm reading services within the country. The individuals, aged 18, 25, and 39, were apprehended during a special operation conducted in collaboration with the Maldives Police Service. The trio had been advertising their services through a Facebook page named “Master Durga Rao Guruji,” which detailed their offerings and provided contact information.
Following their arrest, Maldives Immigration announced that deportation proceedings for all three individuals are currently underway. This action aligns with the government’s broader initiative to address illegal activities and ensure compliance with immigration laws. In recent months, authorities have intensified efforts to crack down on unlawful practices, including the deportation of foreign nationals involved in various offenses. For instance, in February 2024, 186 foreigners, among them 43 Indians, were deported for crimes such as visa violations and drug offenses.
The Maldives continues to uphold strict regulations against unauthorized commercial activities, especially those that may exploit residents and tourists. The swift action taken by Immigration and law enforcement agencies underscores the nation’s commitment to maintaining public order and safeguarding its communities from deceptive practices.
