Spokesperson Heena: President Muizzu government upholds freedom of assembly during opposition’s mass march

By Ahmed Ashraf Published February 1, 2025

In response to Friday night ‘Fudhijje, Fundijje’ (translated as ‘Enough and Broke’) march organized by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Presidential Spokesperson Heena Waleed emphasized the administration’s dedication to upholding constitutional rights. She stated on a post in X (Formerly Twitter):

The opposition rally tonight, with the presence of law enforcement, is a testament to how this Administration values rights enshrined in the Constitution, such as freedom of assembly and speech. President Dr @MMuizzu’s policy is to protect & ensure freedom of expression.

The peaceful conclusion of the MDP’s march, without interference from law enforcement, underscores the government’s commitment to these fundamental freedoms. This stance aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s broader policy of safeguarding freedom of expression and assembly within the Maldives.
