A definitive biography chronicling the remarkable journey of one of the Maldives’ most successful entrepreneurs and key political figures, Qasim Ibrahim, is slated for release on the 10th of this month. Authored by veteran journalist Mohamed Jameel, the book spans over 700 pages and delves deep into Qasim’s personal struggles, business triumphs, and his influential role in shaping the nation’s political landscape.
The highly anticipated launch event will take place at Villa College on Monday night. During the ceremony, a hardcover edition of the biography, an accompanying audiobook, and a dedicated website will be unveiled, marking the beginning of a new chapter in celebrating Qasim’s legacy. In addition, an exclusive exhibition featuring rare color photographs capturing various stages of Qasim Ibrahim’s life will open to the public on Tuesday, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Organizers have announced that visitors to the exhibition will receive a complimentary copy of the book.
Qasim Ibrahim is best known not only as the founder of the Villa Group of Companies and a prominent philanthropist but also as a pivotal figure in the political history of the Maldives. As Speaker of the Parliamentary session that helped shape the current constitution, he played an essential role in forging the nation’s democratic framework. His distinguished career also includes serving as Finance Minister, MMA’s Governor, and Home Minister during the administration of President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom, and he has been a presidential contender in the 2008, 2013, and 2023 elections.
