First By-Election of 2025 Underway Across Councils and WDCs

By Hussain Shinan Published February 8, 2025

Voting commenced early this morning for the first by-elections of 2025, as residents cast their ballots in elections for island councils and women’s development committees. The polling began at 8:00 a.m. and will continue until 4:00 p.m. today.

Ballot boxes have been strategically placed at various island schools to facilitate a smooth voting process. In the Male’ City area, Maafannu Madhurusaa School has been designated as the collection point for voters.

This round of by-elections will see the selection of representatives for two island councils and ten women’s development committees. The elections are a crucial part of the ongoing democratic process in the Maldives, ensuring that local governance remains responsive to community needs.
