The State Trading Organization (STO) has announced that it is ready to distribute cases of canned tuna to households across the Maldives as part of a government initiative for the upcoming Ramadan. This distribution follows through on a promise made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to provide Ramadan gifts to the public.
In a press release issued today, STO confirmed that the distribution of tuna can cases began yesterday and will continue until the end of the month. The gift, which is intended to support Maldivian families during the holy month, will be available to residents of Malé, Villimale, and Hulhumale from Thursday, February 20, onwards.
The tuna cans, which contain chunks of fish in oil, will be distributed to each household in a case of 48 cans, each weighing 180 grams. The distribution times are scheduled from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm and from 8:30 pm to 11:00 pm daily.
In Malé, the fish can cases will only be distributed to Maldivian citizens. To receive their gift, recipients will need to present their household electricity meter number, ID card, and a contact number. STO officials will record these details to ensure that the distribution process runs smoothly.
Five distribution centers have been set up across the city to facilitate the process, including:
- Public Services Department of the City Council
- MIFCO Office Compound
- Vilimale Council Office
- Umar Zahir Building, Hulhumale
- Youth Center at the 10th tower of Hulhumale Hiya Flats
In addition to the city distribution, STO also confirmed that tuna can cases have been sent to various islands across the Maldives, ensuring that the Ramadan gift reaches communities nationwide.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to support its citizens during the month of Ramadan, providing essential goods to those in need.
