In a coordinated operation on February 19, 2025, the Police Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement units conducted a raid on an apartment in Hulhumalé Phase 2, leading to the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of illicit substances.
The suspects have been identified as Mohamed Rishfan, 28, of Milano, Thundi, L. Gan; Hussain Shiyan, 23, of Riyadh, Mathimaradoo, L. Gan; and Hawwa Simana, 29, of Feenivilla, Thundi, L. Gan.
Acting on a court-issued warrant, police officers searched an apartment in Hiyaa Tower 9, uncovering a can containing a substance suspected to be drugs, five rubber packets, and a 500ml bottle believed to contain alcohol.
Following their arrest, Rishfan and Shiyan were presented before the court and have been remanded in custody for 15 days. Simana has been detained for a period of 5 days. The police have stated that investigations into the case are ongoing.
This incident highlights the continued efforts of Maldivian authorities to combat drug-related offenses in the country.
