President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Uz Yazmeed Mohamed as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), following the dismissal of his predecessor, Uz Mohamed Sameer.
The appointment was formalized during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Sunday afternoon. Before assuming his new role, Uz Yazmeed Mohamed took the oath of office and secrecy before President Muizzu. The oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim.
Uz Yazmeed’s appointment comes under Article 158(a) of the Maldivian Constitution and Article 3 of the Judicial Service Commission Act, 2008. His selection follows the removal of Uz Mohamed Sameer from the commission, executed under Article 165 of the Constitution and Section 14(a) of the JSC Act.
The Judicial Service Commission, a key institution overseeing the judiciary, consists of 10 members, including representatives from the Supreme Court, High Court, and lower courts, as well as nominees from the President and Parliament. It also includes the Speaker of Parliament, the Attorney General, the President of the Civil Service Commission, and members representing attorneys and the public.
With this latest appointment, President Muizzu continues efforts to shape key judicial and governance bodies during his administration.
