President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called on the public to unite in a collective effort to reform society and combat the spread of misinformation. The appeal came during his visit to Dh. Kudahuvadhoo as part of his ongoing tour of South Nilandhe Atoll.
Speaking directly to local residents, the President addressed the circulation of erroneous statements targeting various government-led initiatives. In particular, he responded to criticism concerning the recent initiative to distribute tuna fish can cases, clarifying that, as in the previous year, the government would offer discounts on water and electricity bills.
Highlighting the importance of truthfulness and accountability, President Muizzu referenced teachings from the Holy Quran and Hadith, warning that those who propagate false narratives will face divine consequences. He stressed that reflection and critical thinking are essential virtues in Islam and urged citizens to exercise these qualities in their daily interactions.
The President expressed deep concern over the prevalence of harmful behaviors such as gossip, falsehoods, and defamation that are undermining social cohesion. He urged the public to seize the opportunity presented by the upcoming Ramadan to improve their conduct and communication, calling for mindful dialogue across all platforms.
In his concluding remarks, President Muizzu underscored that the nation’s progress hinges on the mental, emotional, and spiritual development of its people. He reiterated that these elements are fundamental to national development, urging every citizen to contribute positively to society.
Through this message, President Muizzu hopes to inspire a renewed commitment to unity and responsible communication, paving the way for meaningful social reform in the Maldives.
