In a decisive move to uphold transparency and fairness, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has unequivocally stated that the revised list of beneficiaries for the 4,000 flats under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme in Hulhumalé was formulated without any external influence. Addressing attendees at the inauguration of the Izzuddeen Faalan (Jetty), the President emphasized his unwavering commitment to ensuring that no citizen is unjustly deprived of their allocated housing.
“I assure you, with utmost confidence, that the preparation of this list was free from any form of influence. This marks the first instance where a housing allocation list has been released devoid of external pressures,” President Muizzu declared.
The President acknowledged that certain individuals previously listed as flat recipients have been excluded in the revised list. He assured that these decisions were made based on clear and justifiable reasons, and urged those affected to utilize the 30-day window provided for lodging complaints. “If there are any issues, they will be addressed promptly,” he added.
Reiterating his administration’s dedication to resolving the nation’s housing challenges, President Muizzu announced ambitious plans to commence construction of thousands of housing units within the year across Malé, Hulhumalé, Vilimalé, and Gulhifalhu. He also highlighted upcoming projects in Giraavaru Falhu, Uthuru Thila Falhu, and Rasmalé, aiming to provide housing solutions for every Maldivian citizen above the age of 18 residing in Malé.
In alignment with these initiatives, the 2025 budget has been strategically designed to prioritize housing and homeownership. A significant allocation of MVR 1 billion has been designated for the “Hiyaavahi Financing Programme,” offering affordable home construction loans at a 5% interest rate. Additionally, the budget includes plans to disburse at least MVR 2 billion in housing-specific loans through Maldivian banks, and allocates MVR 1.8 billion for Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) housing projects.
These concerted efforts underscore President Muizzu’s steadfast commitment to addressing housing issues, recognizing their integral role in the nation’s development and the well-being of its citizens.
