In a vibrant ceremony at Jumhooree Maidhaan, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu proudly reopened the newly renovated Izzuddin Faalan (Official Jetty), heralding it as a symbol of Maldivian heritage and a testament to the nation’s artistic prowess.
“The Izzuddin Faalan embodies our rich history and cultural identity, bridging our storied past with a promising future,” President Muizzu declared to an enthusiastic crowd.
The renovation aligns seamlessly with the government’s national development policy, emphasizing the resurgence of nationalism and cultural pride. Drawing inspiration from historical landmarks, the jetty’s design pays homage to structures from the eras of the first President, His Excellency Al-Ameer Mohamed Amin Didi, and the second President of the Second Republic, Al-Ustaaz Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Notably, the design incorporates elements reminiscent of the crown of the last Sultan, Al-Ameer Mohamed Fareed Didi.

Highlighting the significance of the area encompassing Jumhooree Maidhaan fountain, Izzuddin Faalan, and Sultan Park, President Muizzu shared his vision for its development. He announced an ambitious plan to redevelop Sultan Park within six months, transforming it into an educational hub that leverages modern technology to make Maldivian history engaging for the younger generation.
Further enhancing the city’s infrastructure, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is set to commence work on expanding the road from the MTCC ferry terminal to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) building by the end of Ramadan. This project involves widening the road to two lanes through sheet piling and reclaiming land from the sea, with completion targeted by year-end.
The Izzuddin Faalan had suffered structural damage due to years of neglect, posing risks to its users. Recognizing its cultural and historical importance, the government entrusted MTCC with its redesign and structural enhancement approximately a year ago. The renovation, valued at over MVR 11.7 million, has restored the jetty to its former glory, ensuring it remains a cherished landmark for generations to come.
This initiative is part of a broader commitment by President Muizzu’s administration to preserve and celebrate Maldivian heritage, fostering a sense of national pride and unity among its citizens.
