In a recent interview with PSM News, Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation’s (FDC) Managing Director, Hamdhaan Shakeel, provided updates on the Gedhoruveriyaa housing project. He stated that the structural work for all 32 towers in Hulhumalé Phase II has been completed, with 85% of the finishing work on 14 of these towers also finalized. Shakeel emphasized that efforts are underway to expedite the remaining work, aiming to complete all towers by the end of June this year.
He also highlighted that the current administration has reinstated previously omitted infrastructure components, including essential services such as water, electricity, and internet connectivity, ensuring that all utilities are operational upon residents’ move-in. Shakeel noted that water and electricity have already been connected to the flats.
The Gedhoruveriyaa scheme has attracted significant public interest. The government recently published a list of 1,820 eligible recipients for the 4,000 flats, comprising 1,423 applicants qualifying for three-bedroom units and 397 for two-bedroom units. Following the announcement, over 2,800 complaints have been submitted through the Gedhoruveriyaa portal, reflecting the high demand and public scrutiny surrounding the allocation process.
As the project nears completion, FDC remains focused on accelerating construction to meet the June deadline, aiming to provide much-needed housing solutions for the residents of Hulhumalé.
