Maldives to Host Landmark Saudi-Maldives Forum on Integrity in Tourism

By Hussain Shinan Published April 2, 2025

The Maldives is set to host a high-profile international forum aimed at addressing corruption and promoting integrity within the tourism sector—a crucial pillar of the country’s economy.

The Saudi-Maldives International Forum on Integrity will take place from May 6 to 7 at Villa Nautica Resort, bringing together policymakers, industry experts, and leaders from across the Islamic world to discuss strategies for combating corruption in tourism.

The forum is a collaborative initiative between the Maldives Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Saudi Arabia’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority. The discussions will focus on developing effective anti-corruption tools, improving transparency, and ensuring accountability in tourism-related transactions.

According to Fathimath Ibna, Director of Prevention at ACC, representatives from 50 member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are expected to attend. Notable speakers include Maldives ACC President Adam Shamil and Saudi Arabia’s Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority President Mazin bin Ibrahim Al-Kahmous, along with other distinguished officials and experts.

The event will feature multiple sessions designed to explore key challenges in tackling corruption within the tourism industry. Experts from Interpol, the World Bank, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will provide insights into anti-corruption measures, regulatory frameworks, and global best practices.

A special panel discussion led by UNDP will bring together international specialists to exchange knowledge and strengthen collaborative efforts in combating corruption in the tourism sector.

Given the significant role of tourism in the Maldivian economy, ensuring transparency and ethical governance within the sector is vital for sustained growth and investor confidence. The forum is expected to enhance cooperation among Islamic nations, fostering the exchange of expertise in anti-corruption initiatives.

The Saudi-Maldives International Forum on Integrity will be open to both in-person and virtual participation. Interested individuals can register online via the official website (https://registration.ifi.org.mv) for more details, including the full event agenda.
